Account & Data Deletion

Take full control of your culinary data: delete cloud backup snapshots, unlink Google Sign-In, erase local device data, or request permanent server data removal.

Your recipes, meal history, and family dietary preferences belong to you. Minthee is engineered from the ground up on an offline-first, zero-vendor-lockin philosophy: your culinary records reside on your personal device and you are never forced into an inescapable cloud ecosystem.

If you choose to use our optional cloud backup services, you retain complete sovereignty over that data. You can delete your cloud account, purge all backup snapshots and food photos, wipe local device storage, or submit a web deletion request at any time.

This guide outlines all available deletion paths in compliance with Google Play’s Account & Data Deletion requirements.

1. Deleting Your Cloud Account & Cloud Snapshots (In-App)

If you have signed in with Google to enable cloud backups, you can delete your cloud account and all associated remote storage directly within the mobile app:

  1. Open Minthee on your Android device.
  2. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the app.
  3. Scroll down to the Cloud Backup section.
  4. Locate the action button labeled Delete Cloud Account & Data (highlighted in red).
  5. In the confirmation dialog, review the warning and tap Delete Cloud Account.

What Happens Immediately:

  • Instant Token Revocation: Your authentication session and OAuth credentials are instantaneously revoked on both device and server.
  • Account Database Purge: Your user record, Google OAuth subject ID, and registered device tokens are permanently dropped from the cloud database.
  • R2 Storage Elimination: All cloud backup snapshots, high-definition recipe photos, and pantry inventories stored on Cloudflare R2 object storage are irrevocably purged.
  • Local Data Preserved: Your on-device recipe library remains safe on your phone unless you also choose to perform a local reset.

2. Resetting All Local App Data (On-Device Wipe)

If you wish to erase all recipe data, cooking logs, and preferences stored locally on your phone or tablet (for instance, when handing a device down to a family member or starting over from scratch):

  1. Open Minthee → Settings.
  2. Scroll to the bottom to the Data Management & Dev Testing section.
  3. Tap Reset App & Erase All Data.
  4. Confirm the prompt when asked.

What Happens Locally:

  • Room Database Drop: The local SQLite database (dishes.db) containing all recipes, ingredients, tags, meal plans, grocery checklists, and cooking medals is completely erased.
  • Internal Storage Cleanup: All locally cached recipe images, step photos, and temporary export archives in the app’s internal filesystem (context.filesDir) are deleted.
  • Preferences Reset: All app settings, custom theme selections, cooldown timers, and scoring weights revert to their factory defaults.

[!TIP] Need an offline archive before resetting? In Settings > Your Data, tap Export data to save a standalone .json or .zip backup file to your phone’s Downloads folder or an SD card before initiating a local wipe.

3. Web-Based Deletion Request (Without Reinstalling)

In strict adherence to Google Play policies, you are not required to reinstall the Minthee app to request the permanent deletion of your cloud account and remote backups. If you uninstalled the application or no longer possess your Android device, you can initiate data deletion through our web portal:

  1. Navigate to our public deletion portal at minthee.com/delete-account.
  2. From the email address linked to your Google account, compose an email to:
    privacy@minthee.com
  3. Set the subject line to:
Data Deletion Request - [Your Google Account Email]
  4. Our privacy team will authenticate ownership of the Google identity and execute a full cryptographic purge of all cloud databases and R2 storage buckets within 48 hours. You will receive an email confirmation once the purge is complete.

4. Data Types Deleted & Retention Policies

We do not retain dormant user records, shadow profiles, or orphaned data buckets. The table below details exactly how each category of data is handled upon deletion:

Data Type Deletion Action Retention Period
Google OAuth Subject ID & Email Expunged from user authorization tables 0 days (Instant purge)
Cloud Backup Snapshots (ZIP/JSON) Permanently erased from Cloudflare R2 0 days (Instant purge)
High-Resolution Recipe & Step Photos Binary objects permanently unlinked and deleted 0 days (Instant purge)
Cooking History & Chef Badges Purged from remote cloud databases 0 days (Instant purge)
Pantry Stock & Grocery History Purged from remote cloud databases 0 days (Instant purge)
Active Recipe Live Share Links Remote tokens instantly revoked; web URLs 404 0 days (Instant purge)
Temporary Collaborative Shopping Lists Ephemeral cache expires automatically 0 days (Auto-purged after 48h)
Local Device Records Resides solely on your hardware; erased on reset Managed entirely by you

If you generated a temporary Recipe Live Share link (https://minthee.com/dish/{token}) or Grocery Live Share checklist for family or guests, you do not need to delete your whole account to revoke them:

  • Single Recipe Revocation: Open the recipe, tap the share icon, and select Stop Sharing. Minthee immediately commands the server to delete the public snapshot token, turning the link into an immediate 404.
  • Batch Revocation on Account Deletion: When you delete your cloud account, all live share links ever created under your user ID are invalidated simultaneously.
